Say hello to your new favourite hangout.
With Perth live music venue Jack Rabbit Slim’s preparing for their grand opening this weekend, theMusic.com.au popped by for a behind-the-scenes look at what to expect and rundown of its unique hangout.
Borrowing its name from the diner in Pulp Fiction, the Northbridge-based building that formerly hosted Black Betty’s and then Parker has a fresh coat of black paint and passers by are greeted by artwork from Melbourne-based artist Sean Morris that appropriately features characters from the seminal film.
But, once you enter, it’s clear that Jack Rabbit Slim’s isn’t purely based around the film, and rather a refreshingly original, interesting and innovative take on not only a live music venue, but also a place to hang out.
You enter the venue, and immediately pass through its intimate and retro diner that will be serving up fries (alongside 12 insanely delicious flavoured sauces crafted by the chef over at The Village Bar) and alcoholic milkshakes (salted caramel, vanilla, chocolate, spearmint, etc) until 5am, when the venue closes.

Run by Boomtick and Metric (those fine gentlemen pictured above) with a capacity of 450, the venue will open 9pm – 5am Fridays and Saturdays and, if all goes to plan, will eventually open on weeknights too.
If you manage to pull yourself out of the diner and/or your food coma and enter the main room, you’ll be met with the bar in front of you, and a range of pinball machines and retro arcade games to the right - all this and you haven’t even got to the music side of things yet.
The stage is bigger and reinforces the promoter’s mission to book an eclectic bunch of acts. LED lights are being installed for electronic acts, and when band perform, a red curtain will be pulled to fit the vibe.
As far as vantage points for the punter is concerned, there’s been bleaches installed at the back of the room and the upstairs VIP area has been converted into an area for everyone to hangout, scattered with couches and fencing surrounding it.
Jack Rabbit Slim’s is set to officially open its doors on Saturday night with JMSN, Koi Child and Dream Rimmy getting the party started.
Bands and promoters looking to host an event at Jack Rabbit Slim’s should hit up bookings@jackrabbitslims.net.
