“We believe live music is cause for celebration every day."
The fourth annual National Live Music Awards might not be until December 4, but Aussie artists only have until August 15 to apply for nomination consideration.
Potential nominees can apply via the NLMA’s website, with the already-established R&B/Soul, Hard Rock, Electronic/DJ, Blues and Roots, Pop, Country and Hip Hop categories this year joined by Indie/Rock, Jazz and Classical.
Meanwhile, organisers have announced nationally public-voted awards Best Live Act and Best Live Voice will be removed in favour of making the state-based Best Live Act, Best Voice, Best Event and Best Venue categories publicly voted for the first time.
Details of how to vote will be announced in the coming weeks, with nominees announced in late October.
The category shake-up was accompanied by further news that the NLMA’s gala would remain at The Triffid in Brisbane, where it will stay for the next two years and be live-streamed from.
“The Triffid is proud to be the home of the NLMAs once again this year and we’re looking forward to working with their team in delivering an event worthy of the artists they’re giving recognition to,” The Triffid Head of Bookings Mark Gibbons said.

“We believe live music is cause for celebration every day; and while that may be an impractical goal, we’re thrilled to be able to be part of an annual event that gives a platform to the innovators of our industry.”
