Wilco keep up a string of long-awaited Australian tours, with the alternative rockers set to return down under in March 2024. It’s Wilco’s first Australian tour since March and April 2013.
Vocalist and ringleader Jeff Tweedy commented about the tour in a press release, “How is it possible that it’s been over 10 years since Wilco was last down under?! Mind-blowing. So we’re beyond thrilled to be able to say we’re coming back. We love Australia and can’t wait!”
Tour promoter Love Police’s Managing Director Brian “BT” Taranto added, “Every time I see Wilco play, I think... 'Is that the greatest live band on the planet?' They are The Beatles and The Band and so much more. Musical magic and mayhem and sweet, sweet tones all night long. Wow, Wow, Wow, Wilco are coming.”
Wilco’s Australian tour begins on Wednesday, 13 March, at Brisbane’s Princess Theatre before heading to the Canberra Theatre on Friday, 15 March, Melbourne’s Forum Theatre on Sunday, 17 March, and capping off their run at the Sydney Opera House on Thursday, 21 March.
Wilco will be joined by special guest Leah Senior at all shows besides the Sydney Opera House gig.
Wilco is Tweedy, his fellow Uncle Tupelo bandmate John Stirratt and Nels Cline, Pat Sansone, Glenn Kotche and Mikael Jorgensen. The band are widely recognised for their 2001 fourth album, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, and in 2005, won two Grammy Awards – Best Alternative Music Album and Best Recording Package – for their fifth album, 2004’s A Ghost Is Born.
