Superstars of nerdy alternative rock Weezer have signed to the iconic label Epitaph.

The massively influential 4-piece have officially joined the independent California label after releasing their last seven studio albums with major label Geffen. It is in fact the first time in their illustrious 18-year career that the band has been signed to an indie record label.

Brett Gurewitz, the owner of Epitaph and guitarist of Bad Religion, confirmed the signing on his twitter, posting "Rivers, Pat, Brian and Scott, Welcome to Epitaph homies! FT=W=".

The band's upcoming album "Hurley" will be released on September 14 on their new label. They will also re-release their classic 1996 album "Pinkerton" on their former label DGC.
