"Launching WAW on January 26 and now creating Blak Powerhouse on our 1st birthday really has changed what this day means to me personally, and hopefully we can do that for others as well."

Yuin artist, producer, radio host and rapper Nooky has today revealed that his First Nations social enterprise, We Are Warriors, will host Blak Powerhouse for one night only at Sydney's Powerhouse Museum on the 26th of January.

The enterprise invites all groups to an evening of contemporary and traditional dance, film, art, live music and panel discussions to reflect on the power and positivity of First Nations communities a year after the launch of the organisation.

The event's program features live performances from We Are Warriors ambassadors Kobie Dee and Nooky alongside Kanada The Loop, Mi-kaisha, Tom Foolery, and more to be revealed.

Visual artist DeadFace will practise live art alongside exhibitions from Charlotte Allingham and photographer Luke Currie-Richardson celebrating Blak power.

Nooky will also deliver a Keynote address and panel discussion centred around the themes of representations, identity and building a Blak future.

The event will also host dances from Muggera and Doonooch and tastemaker tunes from Latifa Tee, as well as the premiere of new documentary Through The Fire, followed by a panel talk with producer Kieran Satour, cinematographer Tyson Perkins and Nooky.

On Blak Powerhouse, Nooky stated, "Blak Powerhouse is another mark in the We Are Warriors song line. January 26 is a day that doesn’t usually give me good emotions or feelings. My people mourn the atrocities that ensued on and after January 26, 1788. We celebrate our survival on the day, while others celebrate… you ask em. I bet half of em couldn’t tell you.

"Launching WAW on January 26 and now creating Blak Powerhouse on our 1st birthday really has changed what this day means to me personally, and hopefully, we can do that for others as well. For me, it has a new name up there with Invasion Day and Survival Day - now WAW day is in the mix.”

Celebrating its one-year anniversary on the day, We Are Warriors is a co-created, purpose driven organisation that is dedicated to the celebration of Blak excellence and connection to role models to shape the futures of First Nations youth.

Now they turn to Black Powerhouse which looks to embrace and support the transition of what was a day of sorrow and mourning into one of positivity, shaping change for so called Australia's Indigenous community.
