Take a vintage trip aboard the chill-out express
It must be exhausting work being Dan The Automator. Having spent the better part of the past two decades collaborating with everyone under the sun from DJ Shadow and Ben Lee to Glassjaw frontman Daryl Palumbo, experimental alt-rockers Dredg and the iconic Mike Patton, the US-based hip-hop producer and man behind Handsome Boy Modeling School has stepped out with yet another creative partner, this time dropping a video alongside renowned horror queen and Scott Pilgrim Vs The World star Mary Elizabeth Winstead.
Going by the collective moniker Got A Girl, Winstead and DTA first unleashed their collaborative efforts upon the world late last year with an eponymous debut, and have successfully managed to float far enough below the radar to have released a brand new clip, for recent single Did We Live Too Fast, almost totally free from pre-hype.
If you're familiar with DTA's work with Patton and vocalist Jennifer Charles as Lovage on 2001's must-buy Music To Make Love To Your Old Lady By, you'll be pleased to know his collaboration with Winstead is highly evocative of that laid-back, trip-hop-dappled style, with Mary Elizabeth recalling Charles' sultry timbre with uncanny likeness.
The clip is a black-and-white narrative piece that, true to form, isn't the simple, normal set-up that it appears. Get amongst it and get excited for future releases, if they're to be anything like this one.
