More The Cure More The Cure

Goth icons The Cure have used the first show of their first post-pandemic tour to debut two new songs, much to the delight of loyal fans in Latvia.

The band opened the first show of the Lost World tour in Riga, Latvia with the dreamy new song Alone and closed out their set proper with the ambient sounds of the appropriately titled Endsong. As you can see below, both songs received a warm reception, adding a layer of freshness to a set that was laden with fan favourites and hits from across The Cure's 44-year career.

The Cure frontman Robert Smith followed the live debut by posting the lyrics to Alone on his Instagram.

The performances of Alone and Endsong made good on an earlier promise made by Smith on Twitter, that they'd play new songs on each date of the Lost World tour.

" WE WILL BE PERFORMING SONGS FROM A NEW ALBUM WHEN WE NEXT PLAY... OR WE WON'T BE PLAYING AT ALL! AND I REALLY WANT TO PLAY... SO THAT MEANS..." and then finally "...IT MEANS MY DESIRE TO RELEASE A NEW ALBUM IS OVERWHELMING! X"

The live debut of the new material, coupled with Smith's obvious enthusiasm for the songs seems to indicate that the much-rumoured, long-anticipated,  follow-up to The Cure's thirteenth studio album, 2008's 4:13 Dream, may finally be with us soon.
