WA’s Badlands Bar Petition For Extended Licence To Increase Live Music

"It just gives these younger bands a proper live venue experience."

After a successful launch and inaugural run of bookings, revamped Perth live music venue Badlands Bar (formerly Devilles Pad) is currently undergoing further renovations while the owners petition for an extended licence to increase the amount of live music they're able to host.

The Northbridge hotspot reopened in April and has since hosted four dates from Karnivool among other events, with an intimate second band room now being added to the venue with a goal to utilise both spaces for live music until 3am on weekends.

Owner-operator Mark Partridge told theMusic.com.au the changes were in an effort to nurture local acts.

“It just gives these younger bands a proper live venue experience to rehearse in front of a crowd, work to improve and get into bigger venues,” Partridge told theMusic.com.au.

A Change.org campaign has been setup to raise support for the changes, the results of which will be presented to Racing Gaming And Liquor and the City Of Perth.

If approved, the new licence would allow for three gigs on weekend nights, most likely a bigger show in the main room (500 capacity) and two smaller events for local bands each side in the new space.

The petition also expresses interest to extend the beer garden to give the area a “festival kind of atmosphere” and draw more people to the venue.

“Before and after gigs, people can have a chill out area," Partridge said.

"If they’ve got people that don’t want to go to the show they can kick back and have a drink without needing to pay money for a ticket, so there’s a space for everybody."

Badlands Bar is also petitioning for a licence that would allow them to sell draught beer, which would see the amount of glass and aluminium waste in the venue greatly reduced.
