Popular WA Music Venue To Be Shut Down This Weekend

Owners of WA venue Nevermind Smallclub are "fighting" for compensation.

Perth music venue Nevermind Smallclub has announced its last show will take place this weekend.

Speaking with The Music, venue co-owner Aeson Derulo said, despite their best efforts to remain at the location, the underground institution in Northbridge will shut its doors on the weekend.

“The landlord wants the building back – that’s the long and the short [of it],” Derulo said.

“Despite us having a lease, he’s pushing us out early… we’re fighting for at least some compensation for being ripped out early.”

The institution, which last year took out Best Late Night Venue in WA at the annual Australian Hotels Association Awards, will close its doors prematurely after four years on Aberdeen Street, but owners Derulo and Kai Ono are already looking towards new horizons.

“We are absolutely working on a new venue at the moment, but we can’t say much as it’s early days,” Derulo said.

For the time being, they’re focusing on this weekend’s final events, including one last party this Sunday.

Over the years, the venue has hosted a slew of national and international artists, including Sam Divine, Riva Starr, Black Loops, DJ Boring, Danny Krivit and more.

It’s expected the Northbridge space that currently hosts Nevermind Smallclub will be redeveloped.
