VIVID Sydney Presents Purple Sneakers Eleventh Birthday

In case you missed it, last year’s Purple Sneakers Tenth Birthday celebration was one of the events of Vivid Sydney 2016. Those who were there will remember a line stretching around the block all night (see above), hundreds of punters, nearly 30 acts over three stages, and more good vibes than we could have ever hoped for!

The event featured the two things that matter most to Purple Sneakers: new emerging club music, and the Sydney music community. And as such the lineup we presented included some of our favourite emerging artists (incl. Moonbase, MEZKO, World Champion, Lastlings & more), as well as some of our favourite Sydney music community friends like Astral People, Linda Marigliano, Pilerats, Motorik, Stoney Roads, Andy Garvey, Sidechains, UNDR Ctrl, Luen Jacobs and many more.

So, it made sense to do it all again this year as we blow out an extra candle on the birthday cake on Saturday 17th of June!

For this year’s event, we’ve continued to carefully curate a lineup of exciting up-and-comers that we have supported on the blog and have loved to see grow over the past 12 months. The live stage will feature the internet hip hop poetry of Kimchi Princi; the forward-thinking production of Ninajirachi, the upbeat pop of Gussy; the serene sounds of OKBadlands, the futuristic sounds of Sortagoth, and the captivating electronica of Willaris. K.

It wouldn’t be a Purple Sneakers party without a few community friends in the mix though, would it? Joining our live room will be two other stages just like last year - this year playing host to collectives and Sydney legends like Bad Deep, Fling Fling, Heaps Gay DJs, Kali Picnic, LOW TON, Matka, Mowgli May, Sandro Dallarmi, Sidehustle, SURG, Trench Records, Volumes, and of course Purple Sneakers DJs, as well as a very special DJ set from Christopher Port.

Held at our spiritual home of The Lord Gladstone in Chippendale from 5pm to 3am, this year’s event will again be free entry, so we recommend you come down early as entry will be first in, first served.

Purple Sneakers Eleventh Birthday is presented by world renowned cultural institution Vivid Sydney, Young Henry’s, and Sydney’s FBi Radio, who recently invited Purple Sneakers to broadcast on the main station, after presenting a show for 3 years on electronic music focused sister digital station FBi Click.

So join Purple Sneakers as we celebrate another birthday as a tribute to all that we’ve done over the past year as a music community, a blog, a radio show, and so much more.
