Violent Soho & The Smith St Band's 'Gig Of The Century' Raises $3500 For 4ZZZ

Putting the 'community' in 'community radio'

Yesterday's 'Gig Of The Century' at Crowbar has lived up to its promise, with the event — featuring headline performances from The Smith St Band and Violent Soho — raising more than $3000 for local station 4ZZZ in service of the nationwide #KeepCommunityRadio campaign.

As ABC reports, south-east Queensland punters were out in force in the Valley yesterday afternoon, responding to the bands' surprise social-media call to arms with gusto, making use of the show's 'pay-what-you-feel' entry price to pack out the Crowbar and pull together a none-too-shabby $3500 — with change still to be counted — for the stalwart radio broadcaster. The gig also featured performances from High TensionJess Locke and Joelistics.

The rest of the country's community radio networks also took part in action to support #KeepCommunityRadio over the weekend, which developed in response to a $1.4 million funding reduction to the Community Broadcasting Program at the hands of the federal government.
