No end in sight as the music industry continues to be decimated by COVID.
From 11:59pm tonight, density limits will be reintroduced in Victoria, resulting in live venues taking another big hit.
It’s been announced today that density limits of one person per 2 square metres will be introduced indoors at hospitality venues and entertainment venues as the state surpasses more than 20,000 new COVID cases a day.
"We think this is a sensible change, particularly in the face of the continued huge growth in transmission, particularly amongst young people," Health Minister Martin Foley said.
"Yesterday's formal figures, 40 per cent of those cases where people in their 20s and every indication is it's overwhelmingly from hospitality and related environments."
Foley also stated that Victorians had to learn to "coexist" with the virus, which isn’t a viable option for those within the music industry as harsh and fluctuating restrictions continue to wreak havoc on livelihoods nearly two years into the pandemic.
Indoor cinemas and theatres where people are seated and masked are exempt from the new restrictions.
