Victoria Police has opened an investigation into Australian actor, television producer and model Ruby Rose’s sexual assault allegations against US pop star Katy Perry.

Earlier this week, Rose alleged that Perry sexually assaulted her at a Melbourne nightclub over a decade ago. Representatives for the Firework singer have vehemently denied the claims.

Commenting on a post that detailed Perry’s reaction to Justin Bieber’s headline set at Coachella last weekend, Rose alleged on social media that “Katy Perry sexual assaulted me at spice market nightclub in Melbourne. Who gives a shit what she thinks.”

Rose shared her allegation on the social media platform, Threads. In a separate post, she wrote that she had filed a police report.

“Last update on this: As of this afternoon, I have finalized all of my reports. This means I am no longer able to comment, repost, or talk publicly about any of those cases, or the individuals involved,” she posted on Tuesday, per The Guardian.

She added, “This is a standard request from the police and in many ways, quite the relief.

“I can start the healing process now. And temporary [sic] move forward.”

On Wednesday (15 April), Victoria Police confirmed that they’d opened an investigation into a historical sexual assault claim that occurred in 2010, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.

“Police have been told the incident occurred at a licensed premises in Melbourne’s CBD,” Victoria Police offered in a statement.

“As the investigation remains ongoing, it would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage.”

In 2010, news.com.au reported that Rose and Perry were spotted at the Melbourne nightclub, Spice Market, on 6 August.

Responding to Rose’s allegations, Perry’s representatives described them as “categorically false” and “dangerous, reckless lies.”

“The allegations being circulated on social media by Ruby Rose about Katy Perry are not only categorically false; they are dangerous, reckless lies,” the singer’s representatives said, per Variety.

They added, “Ms Rose has a well-documented history of making serious public allegations on social media against various individuals, claims that have repeatedly been denied by those named.”
