Veteran Rockers Mi-Sex Have Bass Guitar Apparently Stolen At Palais Theatre

"We trust that the good spirit in us all will help return this instrument to its rightful owner sooner rather than later"

The weekend was a bittersweet one for New Zealand-bred, Aussie-adopted new-wave veterans Mi-Sex, who were welcomed to Melbourne on Friday and Saturday night with back-to-back sold-out shows at the Palais Theatre — and who were "welcomed" to Melbourne with the apparent theft of bassist Don Martin's beloved guitar.

The band raised the alarm over the missing instrument on social media yesterday, politely asking for information on the bass's whereabouts and expressing faith in the innate human goodness of the person who has the four-string in their possession.

"This bass was last seen in a band room at the Palais Theatre in St Kilda, Melbourne last night," the band wrote in a photo post titled "MISSING BASS", alongside a picture of the wayward instrument. "Any information regarding its whereabouts would be greatly appreciated. It belongs to Don Martin from Mi-Sex."

The post urges those with information to get in touch via the band's Facebook page or email, highlighting the sentimental value over any kind of possible monetary worth:

"It's not really worth anything to anyone as it is such a distinctive piece and will eventually be found," the band wrote. "We trust that the good spirit in us all will help return this instrument to its rightful owner sooner rather than later.

"Please pass this … on to anyone and everyone you feel may help in our search."

See the band's original post, with photo of Martin's missing bass, below. If you have any information on the whereabouts of the guitar, hit Mi-Sex up on Facebook or via email — we're sure they'd be thrilled to hear from you. Plus, it wouldn't be the first time we've banded together for a good Mi-Sex-related cause.
