US Soul Icon Betty Wright Passes Away

Wright worked with Kendrick Lamar, The Roots and more in recent years.

Influential soul, funk and R&B singer Betty Wright has passed away aged 66.

As Billboard reports, the Grammy-winning singer passed away at her home in Miami following a battle with cancer.

Wright was most famous for early ‘70s single Clean Up Woman, which has been sampled Mary J Blige, Afrika Bambaataa, Sublime and more, and Where Is The Love, which won Best R&B Song at the Grammy Awards in 1975.

The soul icon also featured on DJ Khaled’s Holy Key in 2016 alongside Kendrick Lamar and collaborated with The Roots and Snoop Dogg on 2011’s Real Woman.
