The two companies have reached "a satisfactory resolution".

Following a long-running dispute between Universal Music Group and Foxtel that left the cable TV's music channels lacking the world's biggest acts like Justin Bieber, Drake, Taylor Swift and The Weeknd, it seems that the two behemoths have finally come to an agreement.

Foxtel announced today that "a new partnership" would see Universal artists return to [V] Hits, MAX, Foxtel Smooth and CMC from 1 August, with Foxtel's Brian Walsh stating, "We are very pleased to achieve this landmark deal with Universal Music and my thanks to George Ash and his team for working to a satisfactory resolution. The finalisation of this deal sets us up to revitalise our full suite of music channels moving forward."

It was previously reported that the two companies were having trouble reaching "a commercially viable agreement". It was suggested the dispute was regarding artist royalty payments and related commercial terms.

A Foxtel spokesperson told theMusic.com.au last November: "The Foxtel music channels can continue without Universal artists however, it is not our desired outcome."

Of the new deal, Walsh added, "The recent re-fresh of [V] Hits is delivering very strong ratings and customer engagement with the younger demographic, who love the non-stop music format. MAX, Foxtel Smooth and CMC will continue to broadcast the best choice of contemporary, classic and country music for lovers of the genre."

Universal Music Asia Pacific's President George Ash also said, "We are thrilled to continue our great partnership with Foxtel, and we’re looking forward to working with Brian Walsh and his fantastic team to bring exceptional new music to all Foxtel subscribers."
