Underground Playlists are back and better than ever, thanks to the legends at Mountain Goat Beer. In fact, we’ve decided to pick out our favourite tracks each week and share them with you, so you can get to know the best of the bunch and keep your finger on the pulse. Here are this week's top picks for our Underground Playlists...

More Stellie More Stellie

VIC gal NIASHA has strut into this era with her new single MOVE, that’s big, rambunctious and clever in every way possible. NIASHA has consistently wowed us over the past couple of years with her unique takes in 4 am and Boss Queen, but this new single takes her to a new level and shows a songwriting and production expertise that we’ve yet to be privy to. Passion and attitude ooze out of every lyric, every synth and every bass thump as NIASHA makes it clear that she doesn’t even care if you listen to this song as long as you move out of her way cause she knows that she’s going places.

Ghost Care (WA)

Don't miss a beat with our FREE daily newsletter

Soft Indie-rock trio Ghost Care are back with a bitter-sweet tune in the form of Partying. As usual, Ghost Care have the monopoly on knowing exactly how to lure you in with lush vocals and warm guitar chords before hitting you right in the feels with their simple but relatable lyrics. The opening line hooks you right from the beginning and carries you through a perfect love song that doesn’t have a gooey sentiment in sight. Perfect for fans of Rex Orange County or Pinegrove, with a little more of a cosy vibe.

Brainfade (WA)

Alt-rock newcomers Brainfade have debuted their new single, Houdini, and it’s already an instant classic. Big guitar riffs, crashing cymbals and talented vocals are the bread and butter of this band, and they’ve nailed it at every turn. Staying in the classic indie rock lane, Houdini is the perfect tune to sing (scream) along to in your friend’s beat-up Holden. With tonnes of nostalgic energy, you’ll be transported back to your youth while also itching to make some new memories ASAP.

Stellie (SA)

Indie-pop singer/songwriter Stellie is back on the bandwagon in 2023, delivering a fresh slice of paradise in the form of Softly, an 80s-inspired whippet of a pop song. Ultra cool in every way, with not a note or feeling out of place, Stellie takes us on a journey through a painful love in Softly, where her keen and clever songwriting dips you into her world. While the production is most definitely a highlight, it’s Stellie’s vocals that grab you and hook you in, truly making this track into an instant earworm.

KILL Carter, YNG Martyr (VIC)

Absolute weapon KILL Carter has recruited fellow rapper YNG Martyr and whipped up a truly fanatic track, IN & OUT, that will have your chest pumping and legs moving. While in line with KILL Carter's previous tunes like EXCUSE ME! and Ballin’, IN & OUT possesses a darkness and hunger that’s never made it into one of his songs before. Trap beats, heavy bass and eerie synths lay the bed for Carter to spit out ingenious bars that keep the party going. Most of all, though, IN & OUT is just pure fun and will be the perfect addition to your party playlist that will make you feel like a baddie even when you might be in your saddie era.
