"It’s fantastic to see the Art Music Fund again reflect the diversity and breadth of the work being created by local composers.”

Women composers have stepped up to claim two thirds of APRA's Art Music Fund money this year, with the nine recipients of the grant announced this week.

Only in its second year this year, the 2017 recipients are Natasha Anderson, Newton Armstrong (UK), Lisa Cheney, Erik Griswold, Annie Hui-Hsin Hsieh (US), Eve Klein, Dylan Lardelli (NZ), Kate Moore and Eugene Ughetti.

It's also heartening to note that 66% of the total funding pool were awarded to women this year.

Australian Music Centre's CEO John Davis says, "These works present a broad spectrum of contemporary practice in Australasian art music. In its second year, it’s fantastic to see the Art Music Fund again reflect the diversity and breadth of the work being created by local composers."

Eve Klein, a Queensland-based composer who has won a grant for her sound installation/operatic performance work Vocal Womb, says, "It’s very humbling to look back on the list of previous recipients and the calibre of the work that has been achieved. These are the artists defining what art music means in the Australian context."

Back in February, it was announced that the Art Music Fund would receive an added $10,000 boost thanks to a joint partnership with Australian Cultural Fund.
