Acclaimed chanteuse Sophia Brous makes a return to the limelight with an experimental-pop delight
Celebrated performer Sophia Brous — known better these days by her mononym, Brous — has been hard at work putting together her debut studio album ahead of its planned release early next year, lifting the veil at last on her recent endeavours with the revelation of brand new single and video, The Sound.
It doesn't take long at all to see that Brous hasn't taken the easy route in any regard in creating her debut, with The Sound showcasing a wonderfully, unashamedly experimental side to her seasoned pop chops, an ethereal swirl of colour and shifting sounds underscoring her dynamic, distinctive vocal work.
In Brous' words, "The Sound is about hearing a vision on the breeze, so towering and mighty that it holds you in a kind of paralysed delirium, where one begins to lose their own form from its beauty and power."

The mind-bending clip was created in collaboration with renowned auteur Richard Lowenstein (Dogs In Space, INXS) and creative designer Cassandra Scott-Finn (Kimbra), with further contributions from choreographer Gideon Obarzanek (Chunky Move) and cinematographer Ed Goldner.
There's no slowing down in sight for the venerated chanteuse, either, with Brous kicking off a tour of Europe and the UK from next week to perform in The Barbican's production of In Dreams: David Lynch Revisited, heading over to New York in its wake to perform her Sydney Festival/Urbantheatre-commissioned work Lullaby Movement at the iconic Watermill Theatre throughout January.
After that, though, things take a decidedly upward turn from a local standpoint, with Brous promising to return to Aussie shores following her international sojourn with a run of exclusive shows in the lead-up to her album's ultimate release early next year.
