Dedication and perseverance has been key for Sydney band, TownHallSteps, and it’s all about to pay off with the band announcing a series of shows both in Australia and the United States in support of the band’s new single ‘Ask For More’ from their self-titled album due in stores September 14 through New Justice Records/MGM.
TownHallSteps were born through a love of music and desire to succeed. Inspired by punk rock bands such as Jimmy Eat World and The Get Up Kids, the five guys began writing and touring in the summer of 2004, building their reputation through the Australian live scene.
Emerging as a band to watch, TownHallSteps spent most of 2005 establishing themselves on the local scene, which led to them scoring opening slots for international acts Simple Plan, Avril Lavigne, The All American Rejects and McFly along with well respected Australian bands Kisschasy, Faker, Gyroscope and Something With Numbers amongst others.
Momentum behind the band was building, with TownHallSteps winning the national final of the World Battle of the Bands in 2005; the band given the honour of flying to Hong Kong to compete against the best young acts in the world.

TownHallSteps released their first official EP Breakdowns in 2006. Debuting at #17 on the Australian independent charts, and peaking at #10, the title track and second single Breathe both reached the top of the most requested countdown on Australia’s biggest national music channel Channel V, showing fans were getting behind this band on the rise.
After working with the likes of Rick Will (Foo Fighters, No Doubt, Incubus) and Lachlan Mitchell & Phil McKellar (Silverchair, Grinspoon, Kisschasy), 2008 saw a change of pace and sound for TownHallSteps. Inspired by The Killers, U2 and Coldplay, TownHallSteps began experimenting with electronic sounds mixed with strong beats and ‘get up and dance’ choruses, and a more mature and experienced TownHallSteps hit the airwaves.
Disco, produced by Jamie Rise from Lethal Dose Studios, Hollywood was released to commercial radio and picked up by the Austereo network and Nova nationwide in late 2008. Davenport partnered with TownHallSteps for the Disco film clip, decking out extras in underwear for the shoot. Australia loved the new sound, with Disco reaching the number one spot on Channel V and Video Hits, Australia’s most popular free to air music countdown.
In 2009 TownHallSteps hit the touring circuit with fellow Aussies Juke Kartel (featuring Toby Rand, finalist on Rock Star Super Nova), playing 37 shows in 8 weeks to audiences Australia wide. Second single, Anywhere But Here was launched during the tour and is currently enjoying air time on national radio.
Now the five-piece are about to unleash their new self-titled album which features the current single ‘Ask For More’ which Drummer Ryan Lambert says was themed from those nights out with the boys, when every guy is stopped in their tracks by that one pretty girl.
“All of a sudden every guy will instinctively act different, trying to make the funniest joke to make her laugh, buying her drinks as if money is no issue and all these things to try and impress her,” Ryan says. “What most guys don't usually realize is that girls see straight through this and after all their efforts, usually leaves the conversation with the same impression of these boys as she had when she entered”.
To further promote the album, the band is about to make an impact on the American music market having just announced a week-long tour in October, which will see them perform at iconic music venues in Hollywood, Las Vegas, Santa Monica and New York.
On the cusp of releasing their highly anticipated album, TownHallSteps are excited to showcase the ups and downs that have inspired their musical journey so far. From the infectious Disco to the heartfelt The Direction, TownHallSteps produce the kind of music that will get into your head, make you want to move and most importantly feel good.
