In news sure to raise a few eyebrows, Rage Against The Machine’s Tom Morello will fill in for E Street Band guitarist Steven Van Zandt on Bruce Springsteen’s upcoming March Australian tour.
Morello is stepping in temporarily to replace Van Zandt, who will be in Norway filming the second season of his television show, Lilyhammer. Van Zandt plays the character Frank "The Fixer" Tagliano in the series, having previously appeared as Silvio Dante in The Sopranos from 1999 – 2007.
Although it might come as a bit of a surprise to some, Tom Morello has actually performed with Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band multiple times, including spots on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, SXSW and at the 25th Anniversary Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Concert. Morello also contributed to two tracks on Springsteen’s Wrecking Ball album (‘Jack of All Trades’ and ‘This Depression’).
Van Zandt joined the E Street Band in 1975. He quit in 1984 during the recording of Born In The U.S.A to pursue a solo career, and later rejoined in 1995 for the recording of Springsteen’s Greatest Hits compilation. Van Zandt will rejoin the tour in Oslo, Norway on April 29.
