blink-182 ProfileTom DeLonge has denied he has left punk-rock favourites Blink-182 despite a statement being released just a few hours ago by bandmates Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker stating the guitarist was on an indefinite hiatus from the outfit.
The band's publicist released a statement to Radio.com on behalf of Hoppus and Barker overnight, stating that DeLonge "didn't want to participate in any Blink-182 projects indefinitely". The article also reported that Alkaline Trio's Matt Skiba would be filling in for DeLonge.
"We were all set to play this festival and record a new album and Tom kept putting it off without reason. A week before we were scheduled to go in to the studio we got an email from his manager explaining that he didn’t want to participate in any Blink-182 projects indefinitely, but would rather work on his other non-musical endeavors."
But DeLonge has since taken to his social media accounts to tell a very different side to the story, claiming the he has never quit the band and calling the press releases announcing the news "weird".
"To all the fans, I never quit the band. I actually was on a phone call about a blink 182 event for New York City at the time all these weird press releases started coming in... Apparently those releases were 'sanctioned' from the band. Are we dysfunctional- yes. But, Christ..... #Awkward #BabyBackRibs," his Facebook post read.
There has yet to be any further comment by Hoppus or Barker or through the official Blink website and social accounts.
DeLonge was a founding member of Blink in the early '90s. He is also the guitarist and vocalist for rock supergroup Angles & Airwaves.
