"Heartbroken to share the news that our angel Evie has passed away."

More Cub Sport More Cub Sport

Evie, the dog belonging to Cub Sport's Tim Nelson and Sam "Bolan" Netterfield, has passed away, the band revealed on social media. Thankfully, she faced little suffering and was "her whole happy, cheeky self right up til her last moments".

As any pet owner can attest, they are family and losing them is shattering. And as their 81,000 Instagram fans will attest to, Evie was more than just a pet but a part of the Cub Sport family as the subject of their debut single and constant across the band's career. Evie even joined Tim and Sam walking down the aisle on their wedding day

"Heartbroken to share the news that our angel Evie has passed away," the band wrote.

They added, "I’m positive Evie’s an angel/god that came to earth to guide us through the last 15 years. My best friend, soul mate, guardian angel. She was with us for pretty much all of the most important moments and brought so much peace, joy and laughter no matter what else was going on.

"She loved music so much - her fav place was being in our home studio together just hanging out behind me while I’d work on music. And her legacy will live on in the music!

"She inspired our debut single ‘Evie’ which opened up so many doors and was the reason I left dental school to pursue music, a decision that changed everything. We wouldn’t be where we are today without Evie. I’ve since written about her in ‘I Never Cried’ and ‘Best Friend.’

"If you listen closely you can hear her toe nails on the tiles outside the studio in ‘My Dear’ and she most recently made her official music video debut in the ‘Replay’ video laying next to me on the bed in the same spot where she’d sleep next to me every night."

Cub Sport thanked everyone who has loved Evie over the years and shared seven beautiful photos.

"There is some really special stuff on the way in that world. Other big things have been happening in my life over the last couple of years that I've also been writing about. So, our songs will span a decade and fill in little gaps in the story that's been told over our last four albums. It feels like an evolution into the future of Cub Sport," Nelson revealed in The Music's cover story on Cub Sport.

"Sometimes, I just can't believe that all of my dreams I had at 17 have happened," he said. "All I wanted was to sing, be with Sam, and write music, and I had no idea if any of those things would actually happen. It's been really special to relive these moments. I'm not necessarily reliving the trauma of those times, but looking back and celebrating something that I didn't realise at the time should be celebrated."
