"There's a lot of story still to tell, and such a fantastic team of people lined up to tell it."

Acclaimed Aussie drama series Upright has confirmed it will return for a second season next year.

The series - starring and co-written by musician and standup Tim Minchin - will return to Far North Queensland to film eight new episodes in 2022. Though currently based out of the UK, Minchin will return in his starring role as Lucky, alongside breakout star Milly Alcock, who plays Meg in the series.

"The experience of making Upright was such a joy," Minchin said of the program. "Audience reactions from all over the world were so incredibly positive and moving, we knew we had to send Meg and Lucky on another adventure."

He added, "there's a lot of story still to tell, and such a fantastic team of people lined up to tell it."

Head of Content for Screen Australia Sally Caplan said of the return, "We are thrilled to be supporting Lingo Pictures to bring Upright back for a second season."

She continued, "viewers around the world fell in love with season one and with a standout creative team on season two, including writers Tim Minchin, Niki Aken, Ian Meadows and Natesha Somasundaram, we hope audiences are ready to hit the road once again with Lucky and Meg when it releases on Foxtel.”
