Tim Minchin Details New Album 'TimMinchinTimeMachine'

'TimMinchinTimeMachine' is a carefully curated anthology of 11 songs from the singer-songwriter’s past.

One of Australia’s favourite comedy meets music artists, Tim Minchin, has returned. Today, he’s released a new single, Ruby, and announced his forthcoming album, TimMinchinTimeMachine.

The acclaimed singer-songwriter will release his new album on Friday, 25 July, via BMG. You can pre-order/pre-save the album here.

Minchin has kickstarted the album campaign with Ruby, one of his most personal and tender tracks to date.

Drawing from a real-life story capturing a mother-daughter bond, Minchin details a complex relationship that’s ultimately full of love. According to a press release, Ruby speaks of a universal truth: “We tend to want our parents to be perfect, forgetting that they, too, are the results of imperfect parents.”

TimMinchinTimeMachine is a carefully curated anthology of 11 songs from the singer-songwriter’s past. He’s drawn from the archives and revisited and reimagined other tracks, but each song on this album was written before Minchin found fame. The album is a cohesive body of work that captures Minchin’s distinctive voice as a storyteller.

The forthcoming album is the follow-up to Minchin’s debut studio album, Apart Together. He said of the new project:

Twenty years ago, when I fell into comedy, I put my hopes of a recording career on the shelf. After 2020’s Apart Together, I started thinking about properly producing some of the tunes I wrote in my prolific-but-obscure twenties. I was just going to leak these tunes without fanfare, but when BMG heard them, they convinced me that they deserved an album of their own. Young-me would be very stoked indeed to see this project live.

Tim Minchin is touring across the UK over the next few months on his perfectly titled tour, Songs The World Will Never Hear. He toured Australia in February 2025.
