Queensland indie-pop princess Tia Gostelow is taking some necessary time off as she recovers from a torn ACL and fractured knee she endured during a trip to Japan earlier this year.

In a post to social media, the artist let her fans into why she had been a little quiet lately, writing: “Earlier this year when I was in Japan, I fell a little funny while I was skiing and learned a few weeks later that I had torn my ACL & fractured my knee. I had an ACL reconstruction surgery 12 days ago and am now on the mend & am feeling good & positive about my recovery so far.”

Gostelow continued to reassure fans that she is on the up-and-up, surrounded by the people she loves who are “keeping me company and sane”. She expressed that she is keen to kick off rehabilitation to hopefully be back on stage for her upcoming slots at Woodford Folk Festival and Good Gumnuts Festival over Christmas and New Year.

The singer has had a huge year already having released a string of singles including a feature on First Nations hip hop supergroup 3%’s Sleezy Steezy Cool and a cover of Father John Misty’s iconic 2016 track Real Love Baby. She recently dropped the stellar, warm, acoustic ballad Wasting Days, which tells a story about finding a sense of home in someone else.

She’s been able to showcase her music on many different stages this year, including Germany’s Reeperbahn Festival, Brisbane’s Regatta Hotel for its 150th anniversary and through her slot opening for British indie-rockers for The Last Dinner Party in Melbourne and Sydney this July.

In addition, Gostelow played her first arena show for the Australian Open at the beginning of the year and performed inside the stunning Sydney Opera House as part of this year’s Vivid Sydney program.

Needless to say, 2024 has been nothing short of epic for the artist, and we hope the time off post-surgery is spent healing and rejuvenating herself before she ends the year off with a bang.
