Tragedy has hit America yet again in the form of gun violence as three people have died and several more injured after a 58-year-old man opened fire in a cinema in Lafayette, Louisiana on Thursday evening.
As The Advertiser reports, the horrible incident occurred during a 7pm screening of romantic-comedy Trainwreck when the lone gunman began to shoot at those in the crowded cinema.
Lafayette Police Chief Jim Craft confirmed the fatalities and injuries, as well as the gunman's death who died from a self-inflicted wound.
Katie Domingue, who was in the cinema at the time of the shooting said: "We heard a loud pop we thought was a firecracker."
Domingue said about 20 minutes into the film, "an older white man" stood up and began to shoot down, though not in her direction as she managed to escape to the nearest exit with her fiance.
"He wasn't saying anything. I didn't hear anybody screaming either," Domingue recalled.
Meanwhile Trainwreck star and writer Amy Schumer took to Twitter to express her condolences to the victims.

Police have confirmed that they know the identity of the shooter, though they will not be releasing his name at this time.
