Hands Like Houses — Dissonants (Anger Music/UNFD)
The melodic metal kids have released another album that more than lives up to "heightened expectations". The record has "heavy lines and gutsy ferocity" and "a vibrant, pulsating energy driving each and every one of these complex arrangements". Songs like Colourblind and Perspectives are highlights, with "lyrics that reach for something hopeful". We gave it four stars and our Album Of The Week.
Santigold — 99 Cents (Atlantic/Warner)
99 Cents is "a colourful and eclectic ensemble of songs revolving around the increasingly related concepts of identity and commercialisation". Continuing to "unashamedly market herself as an alternative pop spectacle", tracks like Can't Get Enough Of Myself and Chasing Shadows are highlights, the latter taking "a slightly darker approach". We gave it four stars.

DMA's — Hills End (I OH YOU)
Sydney's "Britpop throwback" to Oasis has dished up a platter of songs "lush with hooks, melodies and fuzz guitar". The band's finished product is "well crafted", "impressive", "fresh and self-aware". "Vocalist Tommy O'Dell delivers an emotionally forceful adenoidal snarl that would give not only Liam Gallagher but also Alex Turner a run for his money". We gave it three-and-a-half stars.
