This Week's Releases

Cass McCombs — A Folk Set Apart: Rarities, B-Sides And Space Junk, Etc. (Domino/EMI)

This compilation "functions as a suitably eclectic introduction to his work", by providing "a selection of his material that never quite made the spotlight, also including alternative takes of older tunes in addition to five new recordings". It's an "effortlessly engaging listen", and we gave it four stars.

The Aves — Good News (Mirador Records)

Built on influences and tales picked up from the band's US travels and life at home in Adelaide, placing it somewhere "that feels exotic and also truly close to home". The songs are "ripe with quirk, imagination and heart", "culminating in a honed and worldly pop experience." We gave it three stars.
