It’s been a HUGE week for new indie, hip-hop and EDM releases – not only did we get fresh new tunes from some of Australia’s finest up-and-comers, like tiffi (who just dropped hell), Perfectworld (who blessed us with Dance) and Kobie Dee (whose new EP Chapter 26 is destined to be a hit), but the international heavyweights were out in full force: Porter Robinson came in hot with his wicked new album SMILE :D, for example, while Mustard delivered another instant classic in One Bad Decision (featuring Ella Mai and Roddy Ricch), and Central Cee got his fans going absolutely mental with gen z luv.
With all of that in mind, now seems like as good a time as any to remind you – or clue you in, if you didn’t know already – that we have our very own playlist dedicated to bringing you the best new music from the underground and beyond, fittingly named Purple Sneakers’ Best New Music. We update it every Friday with more than a dozen of the brand new tracks we simply can’t get enough of, giving you the ultimate soundtrack to power your weekend.
You can listen to Purple Sneakers’ Best New Music on Spotify (here) and Apple Music (here) – and make sure to hit us up on Instagram or Facebook to let us know what songs you’ve been loving!
Here are just a few of our personal favourites from this week’s update to the playlist...

WHAT SHE SAYS: “Hell reflects a grim take on a hopeful ending. Though I sometimes feel hopeful, my nihilistic view brings peace, as I believe the outcome of my life, whether heaven or hell, doesn't really matter.”
WHAT SHE SAYS: “Dance is the first song of quite a few to come that was lyrically co-written with June Jones. Sonically and lyrically I wanted the track to capture this intersection of simultaneous liberation and self loathing. Something that could be played at a club while could simultaneously soundtrack a suicidal episode. The track was written at a particular intersection in my life and transition where I was both out of the closet, but also still found it hard to come to terms with the shame I had previously had my whole life around being trans.”
WHAT HE SAYS ABOUT THE NEW EP: “Chapter 26 is a journey through my life, from being a young Blak man in Australia, to becoming a father and navigating fatherhood from a place of having an absent father myself. To then meeting my fiancée and having my second child, starting to grow my family, then navigating my way through my career at this point in time and being conscious of the time that I have right now and how I'm going to use it.
“All of the stories I share can be traced right back to my area [Bidjigal Land in South East Sydney], a place that holds some of my biggest lessons and some of my best memories. I want listeners to be educated on the subjects I'm talking about and to start discussions. I want people to feel inspired and motivated to overcome any situation they face in life at whatever chapter they're in.”
