Say goodbye to a piece of Aussie film history

One of Australia’s most iconic buildings, the Melbourne house that hosted the Kerrigan family on 1997 comedy cult classic The Castle will be demolished.

As Domain reports, the owner of the Strathmore house and piece of Aussie film history, Vicki Cosentino, has filed a motion to the Moonee Valley City Council to have the building demolished, as repair costs from long-term tenants aren’t justifiable.

Cosentino claims recent tenants of seven years “trashed” the three-bedroom home and caused more than $14,000 worth of damages, which has lead to her plans of clearing the land for two new townhouses.

“I’m sick and tired of it – everyone who’s been in my place has [done] nothing but wrecked it, and I’m sick of spending money on fixing it up,” she said.

Michael Caton, Anne Tenney, Stephen Curry, Eric Bana and more fought vigorously to stop the government’s plans of demolishing their property to make way for a more lucrative venture in an airport expansion in the late ‘90s, but it seems the pool room’s days are numbered.

The house will be demolished towards the end of the year, with Cosentino looking to take on new tenants until then.
