After selling 80% of tickets and selling out two shows on their 2026 Orchestral tour, The Whitlams have added extra dates to the highly anticipated run.

The Sydney and Newcastle dates—backed by the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and Sydney Philharmonic, respectively—have sold out months in advance, so additional shows have been announced to meet the extraordinary demand.

The Whitlams will now perform for three nights at Sydney’s State Theatre in the last weekend of January, with the last show providing punters with a matinee experience on the afternoon of Saturday, 31 January.

In Newcastle, the beloved Australian band will play a second show at the Civic Theatre on Friday, 13 March. Tickets to all shows are on sale now—you can find them on The Whitlams’ website.

As longtime fans of The Whitlams are aware, it’s no secret that the band are fond of giving their work an orchestral reworking. In 2004, they became the first Australian indie band to perform with the country’s acclaimed orchestras, and since then, they’ve made sure to revisit the concept from time to time.

Of the 2026 tour dates, singer Tim Freedman remarked: “Every seven years or so, we get to be right in the middle of a beautiful storm of strings and brass. It’s the rarest and most powerful way to hear these songs.”
