The Terrys explain the track came together thanks to “29 instant coffees and two hours in a Bowral located Airbnb”.

Two of South Coast’s finest – Gerringong-based indie-rockers The Terrys and Yuin & Thunghutti rapper Nooky – have gone head-to-head on their monstrous new  indie-hip hop track Ghost of Bendigo

Inspired by English ska revival band The Specials – who made the striking 1981 track Ghost Town – Ghost of Bendigo leans into the head bopping guitar rhythms and infectious melodies that The Specials fronted at the helm of their success.

Compact with menacing bass lines, reggae-fuelled keys and spine-chilling whistles – all delicately pieced together by producers Tasker and F-POS – the details behind how the track came together also aren’t short of hair-raising.

"We've been threatening to make music with Nooky for years, and it wasn't until a dark and stormy night a few weeks back that the Gerringong council workers and the mayor of Nowra finally came together to make it happen,” the band said in a press release.

While they had agreed to begin their session at 11AM, the band explained that the untimely and unpredictable weather caused storms and road closures across the way, and when paired with Nooky’s parental responsibilities, the session inevitably had to be pushed back to 1AM the next morning.

“It felt like the session was destined to fail,” they said. “However, 29 instant coffees and two hours in a Bowral located Airbnb was all that was needed for this beast of a track to come alive.”

On Ghost of Bendigo, Nooky is truly ablaze both in his lyricism and delivery, the production creating the perfect layer of kindling for his vocals to roar on. Paired with The Terrys’ contagious melodic hook, the song perpetuates a listening experience that is both visceral and leaves you yearning for more.

Listen to Ghost of Bendigo now on all streaming platforms.

The Terrys are set to play this year’s Beyond The Valley on Wadawurrung land at the Barunah Plains Homestead in Victoria on December 28th. Catch tickets here to see the band in action.
