The Regional Sessions will return in February 2025, teasing a stacked lineup of artists to help songwriters and musicians connect with their community and learn from the best in Australia’s music sector.
The Regional Sessions was first created in New South Wales in 2021 to support and reconnect local musicians following the COVID-19 pandemic. Since, the program has held its second year in Victoria, and its third year in Western Australia. For its fourth year, it’ll return to where it all started in regional and rural New South Wales.
On the return of its fourth year, Director of Creative Programs at APRA AMCOS Chris O’Neill said: “We’re thrilled to be able to bring this important program back to regional New South Wales. The Sessions give each local music community a unique opportunity to connect with each other and gain valuable skills from top songwriters, composers and producers in their hometown without having to travel to a big city for the experience.”
Held by music rights management organisation APRA AMCOS, with additional support from Sound NSW, the event will offer keynote speakers, workshops, panel discussions, live performances and networking opportunities to songwriters, producers and composers at any skill level. Already confirmed to lead these discussions and workshops include Becca Hatch, Ben Lee, Dallas Frasca, Darren Middleton of Powderfinger, Dobby, Jem Cassar-Daley, L-FRESH the LION, KLP and Mo’Ju, however, many more Australian music heavy hitters are anticipated to join the ranks.
Hip-hop artist and community figure L-FRESH the LION was part of the first team of mentors in 2021. On coming back to the program in 2025, he said: “We have so much talent across the regions in this country. The sad reality is that artists from regional areas often face additional barriers to try and make it in the music industry due to costs of travel and a lack of opportunities. It’s great to see APRA AMCOS return with NSW Regional Sessions to try and bridge the gap.”
