More The Offspring More The Offspring

The Offspring are synonymous with punk rock, and even though the pioneering outfit have ascended the ranks to royalty status, it’s a genre they’d prefer not to be so closely associated with them.

In a new interview with The Music promoting their 2025 Australian tour and recent album Supercharged, Dexter Holland and Noodles spoke about how they’re often referenced.

“I think that we get the punk label a lot, and I get it because it's where we came from, and there's still a big part of that in our music, but I would like to elevate ourselves and just be The Offspring,” Holland said.

“They don't call Pearl Jam a grunge band anymore, right? They got to the point where they're just Pearl Jam. They don't have to carry that label forever.”

After joking that he’s “just a punk”, Noodles added, “When you label me, you negate me.”

Over the years, they’ve gone from ‘legends’ to ‘icons’, and the press surrounding their latest album, Supercharged, honours them as ‘punk rock royalty’.

“I don't buy the punk rock royalty thing,” Noodles said. “Punk rock royalty is Joe Strummer, Joey Ramone, Jello Biafra, those guys; those are Mount Olympus of punk rock.

“So, I don't really take that on. It's flattering to hear all those things, ‘legend’ and stuff. I don't know. It's flattering.

Holland added: “I think you saw us chuckle a little bit because it's just funny to us. We're like, ‘Oh, we're regular blokes here.’”

The Offspring will bring Supercharged to Australia next May with Simple Plan in tow. Tickets are on sale now via the Destroy All Lines website, and you can find more details below.
