After months of speculation, The Offspring are apparently getting close to finishing up their hugely anticipated new album, which would be their first since 2008's "Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace".
Dexter Holland and Noodles say so in this 35-minute podcast, where they (along with special guest, competitive eating champion Takeru Kobayashi) talk mostly about the Gringo Bandito Taco Challenge happening this Wednesday, August 3 in Huntington Beach. They also talk about the making of their 1992 album "Ignition", while Noodles mentions that Guns N' Roses album "Chinese Democracy", which took many years to get made before it finally surfaced back in 2008. Coincidentally, The Offspring tried to named their 2003 album "Chinese Democracy" as apposed "Chinese Democrazy" before changing the name to "Splinter".
Here's what Dexter says about the new record, "so as you guys at home can probably tell we've been totally fuckin' off on not working on the record", while says that The Offspring have been in the studio every day and are taking a little break so that he could write more lyrics. He also adds that the band has a "good chuck of music recorded" and that both the drums and guitar tracks are done as well as the 12 tracks they like.
Dexter later asked Noodles if he thinks the record would finally come out this year, he said, "No. I don't think so... prove me wrong, dude!" However, he later adds, "Who knows at this point? It's definitely not gonna be a Chinese Democracy situation. It's not... you know, we're gonna finish it, we're getting close, you see the light at the end of the tunnel. You know... we're not gonna go in and scrap and re-write these songs, these songs are good. So don't worry about that."
