The Last Martyr have taken their unique blend of metalcore to the next level with their latest single, Requiem. Now, they’ve celebrated with the release of the emotive new video for the track.

Having announced their forthcoming EP last week, and sharing the title track as a teaser, The Last Martyr explained that the new single (which feature’s alt.’s Daniel Cullen-Richards on guest vocals) is something of a “love story between the Earth/Mother Nature and humans”.

Requiem embodies the journey of the whole EP,” they noted. “All Earth wanted was to help us thrive, but humans took her love for granted with pollution, war, deforestation and hatred which is just as poisonous to the planet as any physical matter.”

Sharing the official visual accompaniment to the track today, the Andrew Vaughan-directed video takes this concept even further, adding context to the lyrics by way of its vibrant set. Designed and built within Fabrik Studios, the nature-heavy clip sees flowers and grass ravaged by humanity, before a rogue rose serves stark warning about the importance of action when it comes to environmental destruction.

Requiem visually represents humankind's relationship with the earth,” the band explain of the video. “There are two sets – Set #1 is a mound of grass and nature to represent the earth, and Set #2 is a swing set wrapped in vines representing the innocence of humankind.

“The video starts off lush and throughout the video, the scene is destroyed, burned and charred, covered in ash to show the lost innocence and humanity's complete disregard for the environment through the poisoning of its land and the heavy adoption of harmful technology, furthering the disconnect.

“Nearing the end of the video a rogue black rose grows,” they add. “As a character in a hazmat suit picks the strange flower up from the ground, it electrocutes him. This is the consequence of our actions."

The release of the Requiem EP follows on from a number of singles in recent years, including both The Nihilist and Antidote from earlier in 2024. To celebrate its release, The Last Martyr will perform a pair of shows in honour of its launch.

The band kick things off with a hometown show at The Workers Club in Melbourne on Friday, November 8th, before they travel to Sydney to perform at the Burderkin Hotel on Friday, November 15th.

The Last Martyr’s Requiem EP is available for pre-saving and pre-ordering now, while its title track is out now on all streaming services. Tickets to their upcoming launch shows are available via their website.
