The figures don't lie.
If there was ever any doubt that streaming is the future of how music will be listened to, then those doubts have now been put to rest for good.
In a report conducted by Next Big Sound, it has been discovered that in the first six months of 2015 alone, over one trillion songs have been streamed online.
Bringing together the total amount of plays from streaming services that include YouTube, Vevo, Vimeo, Spotify, Rdio, SoundCloud and Pandora, the exact total equates to 1,032,225,905,640 plays. Yup.
And if that wasn't enough, the figures don't even include hits from the newly released Apple Music.

Furthermore, according to Nielsen, people paid for roughly 531 million downloads in the first half of the year, which means that people streamed near 2000 songs for every one they paid to download.
In more news to come out of the report, after it was believed that SoundCloud were on the verge of folding due to struggling to combat major music labels, the audio platform's numbers have continued to grow, with near five billion plays tracked in May of this year.
If it is to compete with the mainstream streaming services, SoundCloud's numbers will need to continue its growth and the recent figures show they are climbing more and more each year; obviously very positive news for the Sweden-founded service.
The numbers tracked from May have doubled from the previous year and five times more than the numbers in 2013.
