The Dillinger Escape Plan have announced their long-awaited return to Australia, plotting dates across the country for this August.

The American metalcore band ended an eight-year hiatus in 2023 and played only a handful of shows last year. Continuing to play very limited live shows, the band will celebrate their groundbreaking 1999 debut album, Calculating Infinity, and much more at their Australian shows.

With original frontman Dimitri Minakakis and founding guitarist Ben Weinman leading the band, the upcoming Australian tour begins at Metropolis Fremantle on Sunday, 10 August, before heading to Adelaide’s The Gov on Tuesday, 12 August, Melbourne’s Northcote Theatre on Wednesday, 13 August, Sydney’s Enmore Theatre on Saturday, 16 August, and Brisbane’s The Tivoli on Sunday, 17 August.

Pre-sale tickets will be available on Monday, 10 February, at 9 am local time ahead of the general sale beginning on Thursday, 13 February, at 9 am local time. You can find more ticketing information on The Phoenix.

The Dillinger Escape Plan last played Down Under in October 2017 for their Final Australasian Tour. The band went on hiatus following the release of 2016’s Disassociation, taking the chance to “pull a Seinfeld and go out while we’re still on top.”

Weinman explained, “The band has actually never been more prolific, and we’re as credible and popular as ever.

“I think whenever we’re on stage, there’s not another band in the world playing at that time that even comes close to us, and that’s our goal.”

The Dillinger Escape Plan are one of the most influential bands in extreme music thanks to their genre-bending albums, frenzied guitars, bruising drums, eardrum-rattling bass drops, incredible vocals, and visceral, unmitigated chaos. Previous vocalist Greg Puciato is now in the band Better Lovers.

Reviewing the band’s farewell show at Sydney’s Metro Theatre in 2017, The Music’s Brendan Crabb described the show as “a celebration, not a wake.” Catching the band at Melbourne’s Corner Hotel, The Music’s Rod Whitfield added: “What a stunning farewell to, and a sad celebration of, an almighty contributor to the history of modern progressive and heavy music.”
