IT'S HAPPENING

Brisbane venue The Brightside has just delivered everyone an early Christmas present with the announcement that team submissions for the nation's first-ever BASEketball league are officially open.

The Brightside put out the call for submissions on social media today, with the first season BASEketball Australia scheduled to get under way at the venue on 30 January.

According to the sign-up sheet, "each team must have one team captain with three players and one sub", though team members can be swapped out at the players' discretion. Getting on board also requires a guarantee that members will be able to play each match day (Saturdays and Sundays; teams will be rostered evenly between days), as well as able to field a complete team for each match rostered. Missed games will incur a match fee as well as the fee for the opposing team.

A $10 fee will be implemented for each player per match day, but the upshot is that includes a free drink, so even if you lose, at least you can quench your thirst a little bit.

Additionally, each team will need their own uniform — DIY or get it printed, they don't care, as long as you're unified and identifiable — and all players must be over 18 to enter.

As the venue advises, spots for this competition are limited — and given the tidal wave of interest generated by The Brightside's original announcement of their intention to run the league, it's safe to say that you'll want to organise your teams sooner rather than later, because only the incredibly sheltered would conceivably not want to be a part of this.

Go forth and sign up. Steeeeeeeeve Perry!
