After eight years of playing the drums in The Amity Affliction, Joe Longobardi, also a member of the US melodic hardcore band Defeater, has announced his departure.

The musician announced the news via a post on his Instagram account, where he shared a great photo of himself at the drum kit, looking out at a sea of people.

He captioned the post, “After 8 years I have decided to leave The Amity Affliction. I feel extremely grateful and fortunate to have spent those years with the band. I wish Johnny [Reeves, bass and vocals], Dan [Brown, guitar] and Joel [Birch, vocals] along with the crew nothing but the very best moving forward.

“It’s been an incredible journey. Thank you all for the love. See you out there.”

While Longobardi didn’t share a reason for leaving the band, the drummer got married earlier this month and, last August, welcomed a child.

Longobardi joined The Amity Affliction in 2018 as a session drummer before he was named an official member. During his tenure, he performed on the albums Misery (2018), Everyone Loves You… Once You Leave Them (2020), Not Without My Ghosts (2023), and House of Cards, released earlier this year.

Numerous band members have come and gone from The Amity Affliction. Besides Longobardi, the most recent departure was bassist and singer Ahren Stringer, who left the group last February, and was replaced by Kingdom of Giants’ Johnny Reeves. The latter currently tours with the band and appeared on their latest album, House of Cards, as their new clean vocalist.

In April, The Amity Affliction announced a special, one-night-only show at the Sydney Opera House Forecourt, scheduled for this December.

In addition to their 2026 touring plans, The Amity Affliction were recently announced as one of the top-billed acts on the second voyage of the Hellbound metal cruise, taking place in January 2027. They’ll perform alongside their peers, Parkway Drive, I Killed The Prom Queen, Alpha Wolf, Thy Art Is Murder, and many others.
