‘That’s A Ridiculous Idea’: Tame Impala Reacts To The Wiggles’ Hottest 100 Win

Perth psych-rock juggernaut Kevin Parker, aka Tame Impala, has responded to The Wiggles’ historic Hottest 100 win.

The beloved Aussie group took out #1 this past weekend with their cover of Tame Impala’s 2012 hit single Elephant, making it the first time that a Like A Version has topped triple j’s annual countdown.

As for Parker’s thoughts on the results, it sounds like he’s still in disbelief.

“If someone told me back when we released Elephant that in 10 years’ time The Wiggles were going to cover it and it was going to get top 10 Hottest 100, I would have told you you were out of your mind,” Parker told triple j.

“I would have told you that that’s a ridiculous idea and I wouldn’t have believed you. If a fortune-teller told me that was going to happen, I would have asked for my money back.”

The Elephant Like A Version took place last March and quickly became the most viewed of 2021, racking up more views than the rest of the top 10 from last year combined.

Parker was told about the performance the morning of but didn’t quite believe it.

“I remember thinking, ‘I’ll believe it when I see it,’ because it just seemed too out there. When I heard it, I was like, ‘This is real, oh my god. This is pretty amazing.’ I was still in disbelief when I was watching it.

“They made it their own, which I guess just kind of showcases the genius of The Wiggles. They really gave it a new personality; a new animal personality.”

In the clip, Parker also discusses the group’s hilarious response to the Like A Version last year.
