Adelaide’s long-awaited Walk Of Fame has finally arrived, paying homage to those who have graced the Festival Centre over the years while lighting up the Riverbank precinct.
Featuring artists, performers, composers and directors, the list of recipients is eclectic, and everyone on it has contributed to the state’s vibrant and world-class festival scene as we know it, so its sleek design is a fitting addition to the venue and surrounding areas.
Here are just some of the stars you can catch along the King William Road to Riverbank Bridge feature, bookended by comedian Ernie Sigley (1973) and set designer Hugh Colman (2016).
It acts as an East-West promenade, overlooking the stunning River Torrens whilst connecting the Dunstan Playhouse and the Festival Theatre. For years there has been talk of revitalising the Riverbank precinct with new bars, restaurants, cafes, walkways, so it is great to see an addition of this type.
The artists featured were chosen via public voting and a panel of experts, with new names added each year as decided by the Adelaide Festival Centre Trust in conjunction with more public voting.
Opening in ’73, Adelaide Festival Centre was the country’s first capital city arts centre and hosts more than 980,000 punters a year. That’s a lot of walking.
