Sydney Opera House’s iconic Concert Hall might by closing for major renovations in February, but the venue has assured patrons its closure won’t affect Vivid Live.
Earlier this week, it was revealed the Concert Hall would close in February 2020 for up to two years, and Vivid Live is scheduled to commence in late May.
"During the renewal of the Concert Hall, the Opera House will remain open with performances across our five other venues and our two outdoor performance spaces – the Forecourt and the Northern Broadwalk,” Sydney Opera House Director, Programming, Fiona Winning told The Music.
“Our community will continue to enjoy a range of performances and experiences across the full spectrum of genres and art forms – including Vivid LIVE, All About Women and with performances by our Resident Companies throughout this period.
“Tours will also continue and our six on-site restaurants and bars including casual spaces and fine dining will be operating as normal, maintaining our welcoming must-visit precinct for the millions of people who enjoy the Opera House every year."
The renovations will include improvements to acoustics, stage and backstage areas, theatre systems and accessibility in and around the venue.
Earlier this year, the venue hosted Solange, DREAMS, Underworld, The Cure and more as part of Vivid Live, while other recent headline shows at the Concert Hall include Nick Cave, Iggy Pop and Death Cab For Cutie.
