“The Hordern Pavilion is a one of a kind venue in Sydney – and it’s under threat.”
Sydney Mayor, Clover Moore, has come out today with an impassioned statement in support of the iconic Hordern Pavilion after tragic news came out last month that the venue could be up for redevelopment.
“The Hordern Pavilion is a one of a kind venue in Sydney – and it’s under threat,” Moore said in a statement on her website.
“The Australian Financial Review has confirmed rumours the iconic venue (and the Royal Hall of Industries) is up for tender. Beyond 2021 – just four years away – its future as a live music venue is uncertain, and could be turned into offices for sports teams. This would be tragic.”
Both the Sydney Swans and the Sydney Roosters have their eyes on the iconic music venue as their new offices and administration bases.

The pavilion fills an important spot in the Sydney live music scene as it has a capacity of 5,500, the ideal mid-sized venue for visiting international acts. As Moore touched on in her statement;
“While we know the NSW Government has sent out the tender, the next steps aren’t clear. The Hordern has a long association with Mardi Gras, and so many performers – groups too big for the Enmore Theatre, but wouldn’t fill an arena – would stop visiting Sydney.”
Moore has launched a petition on her website, calling on the NSW Government to protect the location as a music venue.
This year Hordern Pavilion has see the likes of Gang Of Youth, Queens Of The Stone Age, Alice Cooper and Tash Sultana.
