Sydney-bred indie-folk troubadours Sons Of The East have another feather for their caps in the form of a new deal with Universal Music Publishing Group, signed in the lead-up to a national tour set to kick off later this month.

The new deal will see UMPG handle global publishing activities for the trio — individually Nic Johnston, Daniel Wallage and Jack Rollins — and was officially announced by Universal Music Publishing Asia Pacific AU/NZ president Andrew Jenkins and the vice-president of creative, Arwen Curson.

"I love, love, love these guys," Curson said of the signing in a statement. "I’ve been subconsciously humming their tunes since the first play. Such incredible, timeless songs that I’m certain will be sung by festival crowds the world over. I’m tickled pink to have Jack, Nic and Dan join the UMPG family. Bloody marvellous!"

The signing brings Sons Of The East into a fold that already encompasses talented contemporaries such as Gang Of Youths, Vera Blue, M-Phazes, JOY., The Veronicas, Guy Sebastian, Jessica Mauboy, Bag Raiders, Horrorshow, KLP, Spit Syndicate, Jonti and more, and the three-piece are "over the moon like a helium balloon" over the deal.

"The entire team has been so enthusiastic from the beginning, and we can't wait to get stuck in with them!" the band enthused in a statement.

The boys released eight-track EP Already Gone at the start of the year, hitting the road in January and February, and they've now followed that up with fresh cut Lost Cause, which is officially due for release this Friday, 16 September, lends its name to the upcoming run of shows in a couple weeks' time.

Sons Of The East will start their Lost Cause national tour at Charles Sturt University, Bathurst, on Thursday 22 September, and take their renowned live show to stages in Gerringong, Sydney, Wollongong, Canberra, Melbourne, Geelong, Brisbane, Byron Bay and the Gold Coast, with additional dates for Adelaide and Perth to be announced in the near future.
