"Introducing" Matt Colwell
Fans of quality Australian cinema and hip hop alike will have extra cause for celebration in Sydney and Melbourne this month with just-announced event screenings of local drama Is This The Real World, the cast of which includes Matt '360' Colwell in his feature film debut.
Also starring Sean Keenan, Charlotte Best, Greg Stone, Susie Porter and Julia Blake, the film follows Mark (Keenan), "a smart kid from a chaotic family" attempting to settle into a new school and life, juggling an oppressive principal, a drink-happy mother, a jailbird brother and a dying gran as he grapples with coming-of-age tropes such as first love and self-acceptance.
The film's music was lauded on release, netting its composer, Robert Murray Jamieson, the prize of Best Score at the Manchester International Film Festival last year. It was directed and written by Martin McKenna, with Deborah Barlow serving as executive producer. Director of Photography was Ellery Ryan; Editor, Ben Joss; Sound Designer, Paul Pirola; and Casting Director, Alison Telford.
The film will screen at Melbourne's ACMI on Sunday 29 May at 7.45pm, and Sydney's Ritz Cinema the following evening, 30 May, at 7pm. Both screenings will feature Q&A sessions — in Melbourne, McKenna and Colwell will attend, while McKenna will be joined by Keenan in Sydney.
