Deadline Closing In For Aussie SXSW Applications

25 October 2012 | 10:38 am | Alex Wilson

Want to get yourself to SXSW 2013? Get it together to apply before November 7!

The final deadline for SXSW 2013 applications is nearing, with Wednesday 7 November being the final day that applications can be received to attend the massive music and arts conference.

We don't need to remind you that SXSW is kind of a big deal. Widely recognised as the world's most prestigious music conference and consistently boasting lineups packed to the gills with amazing artists from around the globe, the event sees up to 19,000 delegates from 55 countries converge on Austin, Texas for a week of intense schmoozing, bucketloads of rad live performances and massive partying up and down 6th Street.

As we often do on the international stage, Australian bands have punched above their weight at SXSW with DZ Deathrays, Airborne and The Jezabels being just a few examples of Aussie bands that have broken out internationally as a result of their showcases in Austin.

SXSW was also the original birthplace of the annual Aussie BBQ, an event devoted to exposing the strength and diversity of Aussie music. In 2012, Australia sent 650 delegates and 41 bands over the pond to SXSW and the Aussie contingent has been consistently growing year by year.

Approved international bands that have already applied during the opening of submissions in August will be announced soon. Those applying between now and the deadline will be prioritised for evaluation so that the visa arrangements for US travel can be made in time.

Electronic submission can be made via Sonicbids and cost $40. Scope out these weblinks for further information regarding the applications process, a FAQ and some tips on how to maximise your chances.
