"THAT WAS A BOMB OF RADICAL LOVE."
This year’s highly anticipated Super Bowl halftime show has lived up to the hype.
Dr Dre, Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Mary J Blige, 50 Cent and Kendrick Lamar took over SoFi Stadium in LA for the performance, which reportedly cost close to $10 million AUD (paid for by Dr Dre).
“This should have happened a long time ago, as far as hip hop,” Dr Dre said during a pre-show conference.
“Hip hop is the biggest genre of music on the planet right now, so it’s crazy that it took all of this and all of this time for us to be recognised.
“We’re going to go on and do a fantastic show and we’re going do it so big that they can’t deny us anymore in the future."
During the event, Eminem took a knee, a symbolic gesture that originated with player Colin Kaepernick in 2016, who famously did so to shine a spotlight on racial inequality and police brutality in the United States.

In the lead up to the performance, there were rumours that the NFL had nixed the idea for Eminem doing so when it was broached, but reports shortly before the halftime show kicked off claimed that officials had no issue with the gesture.
