A replacement has already been confirmed.

Revered 90s rock band Stone Temple Pilots have cancelled all forthcoming shows, including their dates as a part of the Soundwave Festival, it has been announced this afternoon.

The festival has stated that it's the recording of the band's new album that is preventing them from making the trip down under next month.

“The recording of the new album has now gone beyond schedule and sadly the availability of the recording studio, engineers and the producer or lack thereof dictates that the band have had to cancel their upcoming engagements,” a statement issued this afternoon says.

The band, who now perform with new vocalist – Linkin Park's Chester Bennington – were one of the big drawcards for the festival as well as a couple of theatre shows.
